What is a gynaecologist?

A gynaecologist is a doctor who specialises in women’s health. More specifically they manage the medical and surgical problems that affect women’s reproductive and urolological systems, such as the ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes. Gynaecologists can perform surgeries (such as laparoscopy or laparotomy) to diagnose or treat conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer and perform hysterectomies. To put it simply, gynaecology plainly means “the science of women”.

Common gynaecological problems include:

  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Fibroid tumors
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Endometriosis
  • Abnormal Pap smear
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Pelvic Floor Disorders
  • Genital warts
  • Vaginal infections (vaginitis)

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

Do I need to pay on the day?

Full payment is required on the day and you will be provided with a receipt to claim back from Medicare and private health care funds.
