Do I need a referral from a doctor for my Skin Cancer checkup?

No, a referral is not required. You can simply call 02 8459 0312 or click here to email and make an appointment.

What will I need to do when I arrive?

Please check in with the receptionist. Before your skin check you will be requested to complete a form outlining your skin and medical history. This is so the doctor will be able to give you the most accurate skin assessment.

How long will my skin check take?

The average consultation takes about 15 minutes, but this may vary according to your specific needs. Feel free to make an appointment during your lunch hour.

What does a professional skin cancer examination involve?

To conduct a thorough examination we need to expose as much skin as possible. You will need to undress to your underwear so please wear underwear you are comfortable in. Our rooms are private and allow for complete discretion.

Our medically trained practitioner will then comprehensively review your skin for any unusual moles or lesions.

The doctor will closely examine any unusual spots with a dermoscope to magnify and illuminate the skin, allowing the doctor to see through the top layer of the skin. With a dermoscope, a doctor can tell if a mole or spot is normal or abnormal.

You should let the doctor know if you have any unusual moles or lesions you are concerned about.

If you are concerned about a skin lesion on your scalp, or that is covered by underwear, please let the doctor know so we can examine these areas with your consent.

Is the skin check safe? Is it painful?

The examination is completely safe and painless! The doctor simply looks over your skin under bright lights using a special hand-held magnifying tool.

What will happen if something suspicious is found?

The doctor will explain all the options for further investigations and/or treatment at the time of your skin check. You are always free to ask for another opinion.

Is bulk-billing available?

No, however a portion of the fee for consultations, investigations and treatment is rebatable through Medicare.
